Southeast Missouri's only USDA PRIME Angus Steaks served Sizzling!

Ray's gourmet Pizza... An area original since 1965!

The name RAY'S is remembered by many in the area for great Steaks & Pizza. It all started in 1964 when my father, Ray Ressel Sr. opened a Drive-In on US Highway 61 here in Kelso. He was among the first in the area to offer Pizza.

When the stretch of Interstate 55 opened from Sikeston to Cape, the volume of traffic on Highway 61 decreased dramatically. It became clear that to survive, something needed to change. In 1967, my father modified our home and opened it to the public as RAY'S HOUSE OF PIZZA & STEAKS. By offering some of this areas best quality food in an atmosphere so warm, he was confident this would attract people and make our place a destination. He was right. It was here that a reputation was made, and people did come from an easy 30 mile radius to dine at our house.

We closed the business in 1976 because of Dad's health related issues. Now after nearly 30 years, my wife, Cindy and I have rekindled the fire, so to say. The house no longer stands, but the recipes and philosophies I grew up with are not forgotten.

This building we are now in, was built in 1920 as the FARMERS & MERCHANTS BANK of Kelso. The bank closed in 1927 after an embezzlement scandal. My grandfather, Werner Ressel, bought the building in 1934 and operated it as a grocery store until the late 70's when he retired. He leased it out to a couple other individuals who continued it as a store until the late 80's. In the early 90's, my father moved into this building and and made it into his woodworking and art studio. He continued to live and work in this building until he passed away in 2003.

Cindy and I decided to renovate and restore the building as close to its original appearance of the 1920's. As you notice, we have combined Art, Crafts and gifts within a dining room gallery atmosphere. Today, much like 30 plus years ago, we are a family operated restaurant. Our four sons, Greg, Michael, James and Jason all work with us in building upon a tradition of excellence. It is our goal that your dining experience be intimate, satisfying and memorable. If for ANY reason it is not, please let us know.

On behalf of our family before us, and our family today...

Welcome to our Place!

Ray Jr.
